Doreen Haaksma
I am a young furniture designer–maker specializing in furniture, and I studied at the Wood and Furniture College in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Precision and care are at the heart of everything I make. I take real satisfaction in transforming materials from a two‑dimensional idea into a three‑dimensional object.
I feel at home working on complex projects, such as bentwood constructions and combinations of different materials. Technical challenges energize me.
Every material has its own character and requires a specific approach.
Making has always been part of who I am, so studying furniture making felt like a natural next step.
Although wood is my primary material, I have also explored various applications of other materials, such as plastics, metal, and textiles.
I continue to enjoy expanding my knowledge and skills in working with new materials and techniques.
For my graduation project I created the cabinet Pivot Blue. In this piece I challenged myself with the complexity of curved wooden components and the rotation mechanism of the round door.
Now, as a young designer, I am gradually developing my own signature as a maker.
